Standard Change-Makers has been designing and manufacturing its own steel enclosure coin hoppers for all of its change machines for many years. Since its introduction in 2004, the Modular Series standard coin hopper was designed to hold your choice of up to 3,200 Quarters or 2,500 Dollar Coins. The mechanism could handle either coin, and a simple dip switch setting was all that was needed to change the value of the hopper from 25 cents to one dollar.

stand2Over the years, we have expanded the Modular (MC) series product line and included coin hoppers that can hold up to 5,200 (5.2K), 6,200 (6.2K), 9,000 (9.0K) and 10,000 (10K) quarters in various cabinet configurations.

Recently, we have received complaints of problems in some of these higher capacity coin hopper designs. Our investigation led us to two basic issues that can cause the problems in the field: (A) the feed mechanism is oversized for the quarter coin size; and (B) modification of the diverters needed to support weight on top of the feed mechanism. The problem we are hearing is related to the feed mechanism bending quarters in reverse gear, while trying to free a coin jam.stand1

In response to that issue, we have decided to eliminate the Dollar/Quarter combination coin mechanism, and separate the two into Quarter Only and Dollar Only Hopper configurations. We have always used two separate hopper mechanisms for quarters and dollar coins in the System 500/600 Series change machines without problems.

We are confident that using the more precise coin mechanism for quarters will eliminate the need to replace high capacity hoppers in the field that have been bending quarters, or requiring resets due to jamming issues. These problems have been seen in the higher capacity hoppers only, and we have not had complaints related to the standard 3,200 (3.2K) coin hoppers.

The Standard Change-Makers Service Dept. has been repairing hoppers with a capacity of 5,200 quarters or more experiencing frequent jamming issues or bent quarters under warranty (less than two years old) at no charge. We have only seen this problem recently, therefore hoppers older than two years will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The change to these newer part numbers will take place around December 1, 2016.
